There’s nothing more satisfying than a good ol’ closet purge! Ok, there probably are a billion things more satisfying, but it just makes getting dressed everyday a BREEZE! Just picture it, you have all of your weather appropriate items in plain sight, all the clothes you don’t wear anymore are donated and no longer taking up space, everything has a place and is grouped by type, *insert all the heart eye emojis*!
That is exactly what I do with my closet whenever the seasons/weather changes! I typically do this at the end of Summer for Fall/Winter and at the end of Winter for Spring/Summer. So today I’ll be sharing my thought process with you of how I’ve organized everything, as well as what I use to organize and why!
So as you can see in the picture above, I first started by making a pile of all the clothes/shoes I don’t wear or that don’t fit! I separate this later into a “donate” pile and a “sell” pile, which I judged based on the quality, if it’s on trend, if tags are still on, etc., so I know what’s worth selling!
Before starting this, my closet was already pretty organized and categorized as I stated earlier this is something I upkeep year-round and just rotate the clothing! So after going through my clothes, all I had to do was re-arrange in order to make sure my Spring/Summer clothes are closest to the front of my closet to make it easy on myself. Now, as far as how I section my clothes, I currently have about 11 different types of clothing that I like to divide in sections. Which is mainly because I couldn’t pack up my winter clothes and store them like I have in the past since our storage space is very limited in this apartment! But here’s how I section them..
- Leather Jackets
- Misc. Jackets & Vest
- Blouses/Dress Shirts
- Spring/Summer Tops
- T-shirts/Cropped Shirts
- Long Cardigans
Sectioning this way helps me to quickly and easily put an outfit together without having to do a bunch of digging to find something. Which I’m sure we all have experienced how annoying that is! 😉
I also bought storage bins from Amazon that I placed on the highest shelf to organize some of the smaller items that would typically go in a dresser. I didn’t want a dresser that’d take up space in my beauty room so I decided this would be a better use of space. The bins are organized like this..
- Sports Bras & Gym Tops
- Athleisure Jackets
- Tanks & Crops
Again, organizing into sections like this helps me remember where everything is since everything has a place and as a result helps me maintain this organization throughout the season. I can easily put things away where they belong which is KEY! I love these bins because they have the clear label inserts to see what’s inside each bin without having to take it down and look in it!
Lastly, I’m using that white 3 Drawer Cart temporarily for my underwear, socks/stockings, and bras/swimwear. I am still on a hunt for a similar 4-drawer storage bin that isn’t plastic and is actually cute lol! This one linked here is an example of what I have found so far, which I don’t hate, but still don’t 100% love so I want to keep looking. Also, the final thing I haven’t done yet but plan to do is swap out my shoes. All those boots that are on the shelf under my pants will be removed and replaced with sandals and Summer shoes! I’m just unsure where I will store my Fall/Winter shoes at the moment. 🙂
I hope this gave you some inspiration for doing a Spring closet clean-out of your own! I’d love to hear what ideas you have or see how your closet is organized so please tag me on Instagram @angelaxrene so I can get some inspo! 🙂 Remember, the most important part of this is making sure you create a system that you can easily maintain. Until next time, happy cleaning!
